Our Attorneys Kathryn Long Mahoney
Kathy was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1992. While in law school, she was a member of the Moot Court Bar. Kathy is a member of the NSBA Council of School Attorneys, the South Carolina Council of School Attorneys, and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. Kathy has practiced with the firm since her graduation from law school in 1992. Kathy is admitted to practice before the State and Federal Courts of South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Education Law Kathy works in all areas of school law, with an emphasis on personnel, special education, litigation, student matters, and policy development. Kathy has tried cases for school districts on issues ranging from student constitutional matters to employment discrimination. She has helped school districts avoid litigation by providing counsel in all types of personnel matters, and she had handled many teacher dismissal hearings before school boards. Kathy also concentrates on special education matters before they become administrative claims. This practice often enables the firm to be fully familiar with a case and the personnel involved should an administrative claim be filed. Kathy lectures frequently and provides in-service training for administrators and teachers in many subjects, including employment matters, sexual harassment, special education, and student constitutional issues.
